We Shut Our Eyes

We shut our eyes to dire things on earth
We live in vain, with pride, seeking fame,
Saying we have a right to have self-worth
Assiduous we are no more, what shame.

What has happened to toil and achievement?
And the feel for obligation and debt?
Living our lives without much bereavement
Without humility, without regret.

Morning

The way the sun shines
Through the sweet drops of dew
Settled on a tulip flower
Deep in it's morning slumber.

The way the rays caress the ground,
Like a mother's gentle touch.
Nature awakes
But the mind stays deep in its sleep.
